Canvas Classic Quizzes vs New Quizzes
Canvas courses can use two quiz engines with different interfaces and question rendering. A workflow tested on one should not be assumed identical on the other.
Classic Quizzes
Classic Quizzes is Canvas’s older quiz engine and remains in use across many courses and institutions.
New Quizzes
New Quizzes uses a newer assessment interface and supports additional question and moderation features.
Test the real combination
Confirm the quiz engine, whether Respondus is required, and whether you use the overlay or standalone Autosolver. Use a practice quiz matching the real configuration.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which engine a course uses?
The interface and URL can differ, but the reliable answer is the course instructor or LMS administrator. A practice quiz provides the best compatibility test.
