The native overlay works over everything on screen — one pasted line installs it (Terminal on macOS, PowerShell on Windows). We’ve auto-selected your OS below.

NoLock for Mac

One Terminal line installs it. Sign in, arm, then hold the mouse on a question.

Turn off SIP, then AMFI

NoLock needs System Integrity Protection (SIP) and AMFI off. It’s two phases — disable SIP from Recovery and reboot, then disable AMFI from normal macOS.

Phase 1 · Recovery — disable SIP. Apple silicon: shut down, then hold the power button until Options appears → Continue. Intel: restart holding ⌘R until the Apple logo. Then open Utilities → Terminal and run:

csrutil disable
reboot

Phase 2 · macOS — disable AMFI. Once you’re booted back into macOS, open the normal Terminal app and run (enter your admin password when asked):

sudo nvram boot-args="amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1"
sudo reboot

On Apple silicon the AMFI step must come after the SIP reboot — until SIP is actually off, setting boot-args is blocked (not permitted).

Run the installer in Terminal

Open Terminal (Spotlight → Terminal), paste this line and press Return. It downloads NoLock, installs it to /Applications and launches it. You are asked for your admin password once.

Sign in with Google

Use the Google account you subscribed with. NoLock needs an active plan to arm.

Arm

Pick LockDown Browser (or your exam app) and press Arm. A small overlay appears. The exam keeps focus, clicking the overlay never steals it, and it is excluded from screen capture and screen sharing.

Make sure your proctor app (e.g. Respondus LockDown Browser) is on the latest version — older versions can cause errors on macOS.

Using the overlay

The overlay is your control panel, and it stays hidden from screen capture and screen sharing the whole time. Open Chat to ask anything, press ⌘S to send a screenshot of the screen straight into Chat, and use the shortcuts below to show, hide, or nudge it.

Using the Auto Solver

Flip Auto Solver on in the pane, then hold the left mouse button on a question for about 3 seconds. NoLock takes a screenshot, a frontier model reads the question and finds the answer, and the overlay hides itself while it works. Nothing to configure. One question per hold. Release early, move the mouse, or press Esc to cancel.

Click selects the answer in the exam for you. Show only displays it in the overlay and never touches the exam.
